Wading

Hey Elizabeth!  The cows went swimming yesterday.  They don’t swim like you do.  They just wade in the pond.  I think it helps cool off their feet.   But yesterday I think they went in the pond to EAT ALL THE CATTAILS.  Rotten bums!  It is the first year the cattails had gotten so big.

The water is pretty dirty.  We haven’t had enough rain to fill it up.  The cows still drink from it, even though they have clean water several feet away in great big tubs.  The cows pee and poop in the pond…. and they still drink out of it.  Bad cows.  Bad bad.  I hope they dont eat the frogs!  (Don’t worry, the frogs jump out of the way really fast)

Here is what the pond looks like today, with no cattails left.

I hope you are being a good girl Elizabeth.  I really like it when you leave me messages here.  Your Mommy is doing a good job teaching you how to type.

I love you!

Love, Grandma Gayle

    Elizabeth,
Yes I like to swim. The cows are hot today. It is so hot they are laying down in the shade in the woods.
I hope to see you soon.
    Love,
    Grandma

We went to Athens, GA on Tuesday the 7th of August. One cow was up to its chin in a green mossy pond. Today we needed to go back to Athens, GA. We went by the same pond a little later in the afternoon. It appeared the whole group of cows was in the same pond up to their chins in the green mossy water. It was as if they knew it was going to be a terribly hot day and they were getting ready to combat the heat. The temperature reasched 103 degrees in Athens, GA. When I road back by the pond on the way home after 8PM the cows were grazing in the field. They all looked healthy and just fine. I was pleased athat they were so smart.
We do need to use the air conditioning during these hotest days and nights of summer. I am using white sheets to reflect heat away from our two story home. It really helps with our electric bills. I also use the car visors on our Eastward and westward facing windows. The silver reflections as well as the white sheeting has so far lowered our energy consumtion by 75%. I placed the sheeting outside of the windows. [the windows are tented dark. The dark tent actually absorbs heat. That is why I decided to try the white sheeting on the outside of the windows.] This high heat at night will raise our electric bill however. It is 86* at 11:07 PM. I shall thank the Lord as I lay down that we have jobs and that we will be able to pay the higher electric bill.
