Steve got mail!

Steve got mail today.  It really made us laugh.

When I got a postcard from Shirley, I commented here about his thought that it should have been green.. so there could be money inside the zipper.

This is what he got today from Shirley:

And look inside!

So Shirley, where in the world did you find money fabric?  That is just a hoot.  We have had the giggles ever since he brought the mail in.  It surely made him feel special that you thought of him.  Thanks!

And here is a quilt I finished quilting yesterday.  The Baptist Fan is a very old quilting design.  I got new tools…….a  Contemporary Baptist Fan Quilt EZ template ….. to make the design that is quilted on the quilt top. (it looks like concentric arcs, and adds texture)  The quilt top is something I made in 1998 I think.  I won the blocks at a guild meeting, and they are all signed by the various makers.  They were supposed to be any star, made with blue and white fabrics.  Someone chose yellow instead of white!  I put the blocks together with a star sashing.    It is not particularly well pieced, but it was fun to pull it out of the cabinet full of my own tops and do something for myself.  It will probably feel good this winter when laying on the couch, don’t you think?

Here’s a fuzzy shot of most of it.

Here are a few close ups.

And the back:

Neil called today just to talk.  I love when he does that.  And Elizabeth spelled her name for me!  She only did Elizabeth….. but she knows how to spell her middle name (Leona) too.  And she is 3 1/2.

I know for sure I could spell my name at 4, but doubt I could at 3.  I’m not sure I remember being 3 though.  I clearly remember my 4th birthday and many events when I was 4.
How old were you when you learned to spell YOUR name?

Oh dear …. I’m sure I knew how to spell my name by the time I was 17. But ya know, it took me 5 years to learn to spell what’s his name’s last name … and then I divorced him 2 years later. See what happens when you learn to spell??

Cooper has been spelling his name since he just turned 2. He’s weird about letters that way. He spelled Mama and Dada first, then Cooper, then Kellar. At this point, he’s picking out words in my books (still working on Memory Keepr’s daughter – really NO time to read these days!), and saying “Mama – is that word ‘love’? And I see ‘and’ and ‘the’ and ‘doctor.’ I see so many words!” Boy genius, I say!
