Steve has been working hard this week on the porch.  The old porch has to come off in order to be ready for the contractor to start work.  That meant he had to get rid of all the crap ON the porch.  Lots of it got burned, some to the garbage, to the recycle place, some to the barn.  Very little came in the house.  Although, some had to.  My durable medical equipment…. wheelchair, walker, toilet seat riser and safety bars…. all those expensive to replace kind of things that we need to keep…. all came in to the bedroom turned storage room.

So here are just a few shots of what progress looks like, in sequence.  And remember…. the old part of the house is a 100 yr old carriage house that used to have a hay loft upstairs.  The barn wood is all the original.  And yes, we still live with some of that wood INSIDE too.  Can you say rustic?  With character?

Ok, in pic above, you see the whole house, looking south.  I am standing at the corncrib, up near the barn.  The porch is lowest roof in foreground.  On right side of house is the kitchen, then the present studio kind of behind it, which is lighter siding.  The tallest part of house is the oldest part of house…the wagon shed part.  That window you see is in the loft, and the new “breezeway” roof will just clear the bottom of it.

Porch in process of being removed.

This crucky window is one of the last two in the house that needs to be replaced.  All the others were replaced with double hung, tilt in windows that are great.  I hope someone gets rid of all the wasp nests too.

And here is what it looks like today.  The sliding glass door will be replaced with a French door.  Yesterday when he got the last stud down, Steve yelled as loud as he could:  “NAAAAAAAAKKKKKKEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!”  Made me giggle.

Hope everyone is having a good week.  I need to get busy binding a couple quilts.
