Fiscal Responsibility

The stock market and bleak financial picture in this country absolutely makes me crazy.  What ever happened to fiscal responsibility?

Why do the rich fat cats who run corporate America, the ones who are now giggling in their mansion…. why is it that they are rewarded with huge salaries while their companies go bankrupt, or the government has to buy them up to “save” them so that the little guy can be saved?

I have lived at the edge of the poverty line for 10 years.  I can balance my budget.  If you dont have money to buy something, you dont buy it.  It is that simple.  YES IT IS.  Sometimes you make hard decisions.  Bread or medicine?  Depends on the day which way it goes.  Sometimes it is food, sometimes it is medicine, sometimes it is gas for the car.  But those of us who live on the edge of poverty, as well as those below the poverty level are DAMN PISSED OFF that our elected officials and big corporations cant balance a budget.

I guess today I co-own (with all other Americans) a big insurance company.  I didnt know I was gonna.  Not sure I want to.  I wasnt consulted. But bring it on.  Let me and some of my friends take a look at the budget for you.

Wanna guess where the cuts start???

I really really want to know what McCrap McPain McCain and Obama think they are gonna do about all this government bail out stuff.

I really want to know when we are going to quit supporting other nations and start supporting AMERICANS.

I really wanna know what improvements they plan for our economy.

They call me.  They send me letters.  They always want the same thing from me.  Money.  They arent getting it.  I dont have any.

Tell me something reassuring.  Tell me something honest.  Tell me something that is a concrete, credible, intelligent plan.  Then you can have my vote.

ok, I feel better now.  Back to normal programming.

Amen Sister! I have those same thoughts. I also have the misfortune of living in Michigan and working in the automotive field. Unemployment rate is now 8.9%. When will it get better?

I dont know when it will get better. We feel your pain Diana. Our area is the “rustbelt”… where steel mills have closed because they make steel cheaper in other countries, they sent all the jobs to other countries too. The pain you are feeling is what we have felt for 10 years. I think it is difficult for folks who have great jobs (and those running for election) to understand the stress of daily decisions we face that are tied to the economy.

I see I am not the only one stressed by this recent turn of events.

DH works for an insurance company. It has been literally years since we’ve seen a Christmas bonus (but, by God, the CEOs got theirs). We have seen down-sizing of the workforce in the industry, in spite of the fact that more workers are needed to handle the increased claims due in part to recent natural catastrophes. Yet some “fatcat” gets his big bonus for cutting staff and reducing expenses.

Now the AIG is not just an insurance company, the division that caused them to get into trouble is a very specialized field and not the P&C business, but it still ticks me off! Wanna bet the “bosses” get a sweetheart deal to retire?

We don’t live at the poverty line but we are getting close. Every passing year brings us closer as our country’s middle class is being squeezed out. If it is allowed to continue, we will become a two class society. The poor and the rich…nothing else.

This is what happens when we elect the class clown ………………instead of the smart kid …
