3 kinds of woodpeckers

Thanks to some of my readers, I have been learning more about birds and can even tell the difference between kinds of woodpeckers now.

This is a Downy Woodpecker.  He is very small.

And a Hairy Woodpecker.

And wow!  Ive never ever seen one of these before.  It was HUGE!  The size of a large crow!  A Pileated Woodpecker.

All THREE!!!!!!! You’ve got all three!!!!! We used to have a couple pair of Downy’s and a Pileated here. Haven’t seen the Pileated in at least 10 years now…..and the Downy’s in 2 or 3.

How cool to have all three of them!!!

We have got all three of them here in Arkansas too. I love watching all the birds except when I am sitting in my deer blind and the Pileated woodpecker has a nest straight in front of my blind and he makes a very loud noise and has no manners because he wouldn’t shut up. I threatened to shoot him several times but please note, I didn’t.

Cool, we have all three here too. Aren’t the Pileated Woodpeckers huge? Have you heard them too? They sound just like Woody Woodpecker from the cartoons.
