Feathered Dahlia

It has been a long wait…… but it finally happened.  My Feathered Dahlia quilt and pattern have been published in the Dec/Jan issue of Quilters’ Newsletter Magazine.

Make sure you pick up a copy so you can make your own.  I would love to see what you do with this pattern.  Please let me know if you make one!

I’m afraid of Dahlia patterns (need too much care and attention), but this one looks perfect to me. Just the right balance between technics, effect and fun.
Too bad we don’t have this magazine here.

    Hi Gayle,
I saw this quilt in a magazine yesterday and when I went to purchase it today it was no longer on the shelves!! I checked out the link above and the shipping to Canada is ridiculous. Is there another way for me to purchase this pattern? Perhaps in a downloadable format? I noticed that it was once on ebay!

no, I saw an auction for the pattern only, but the auction was back in december i think. I saw the magazine in a store on Friday, but I didn’t know that they changed their issues on Friday so when I went to purchase it on Saturday it was gone :(

Hi Gayle, I am in the process of making your feathered dahlia and am having problems with the border – all my pieces are the measurements called for but when I try to attach the HSTs to the triangle units they are more than an inch off, is it possible there is an error in the directions? I have had a couple other quilters look at my parts and the pattern and they are coming up with the same problem. Any help would be appreciated!

      Jill,
I did not write the directions, Quilter’s Newsletter did. (I sent them pictures and diagrams and a description of how I did it, but they wrote the final directions.) I am glad to help you the best I can. Referring to the magazine directions, are you saying that the L’s sewn into strips of 3 reds and 4 reds are an inch too big to attach to a K ??? Or are you saying that the M pieces are too big? The M is intentionally bigger so that the white L’s are kind of floating…an extra bit of red is on the outer perimeter of the border. (This is described in step 6 of the directions.) Clear as mud? Let me know if you need further clarification.

Yes, the L’s are too big to attach to the K’s. I have re-measured and I’ve cut and sewn everything according to the directions but they just don’t fit. Thank you for spending. I really love this pattern and the border just makes the whole thing pop.

In that case, I am sure their directions are wrong. I would love to see it when you finish.
